Country Manager South Africa Solar PV. Our client requires someone who has managed a full company/country structure including legal, finance, project finance, support, HR, IT, Construction, Business Dev/Market Dev’t, Projects etc.. with IPP Solar experience and 8-10 yrs in an IPP company, someone who has successfully led a business across all functions and understands so well project development and how it all knits together.

Leading international energy developer with an exclusive focus on Solar PV led by a dynamic trans-national team. Operations in South Africa commenced 15 years ago, with a large and ever-growing international footprint, including both land based and floating solar solutions and over 1GW of pipeline in both Solar and Hydrogen.

The Country Manager – South Africa is a critical and key leadership position for the Group, with key potential to double in size and profitability in the coming years. Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for leading the largest subsidiary within the group, responsible for effectively managing and leading the South Africa operations with a team of 40+ corporate staff, 800+ project staff and supporting wider global initiatives across  other locations.

Oversee and lead the strategy of the South Africa organisation across all aspects of Legal, Finance, Market Development, Strategy, Project Financing, Operations, IT and Support for the group, also ensuring that the South Africa group actively delivers centralised support to other global divisions.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead the implementation of strategy, policies and standards at local level and ensure full integration with global organisational objectives.
• Manage and ensure full co-ordination of all departments and activities, ensuring effective leadership and management of key priorities for the organisation.
• Full P&L and budgetary responsibility for South Africa and oversight of timely audit, reporting and consolidation of company accounts.
• Oversee project financing and market development activities across South Africa and ensuring effective management of all projects under construction and in operation.
• Act as key liaison with senior staff to interface with local authorities and associations, government, banks, strategic partners and clients.
• Lead Market Development initiatives, identifying key Solar PV opportunities, oversee project bidding, financial modelling, project calculations and financial close.
• Oversight and management of all Solar IPP projects across South Africa and ensure ongoing profitability is achieved.
• Deliver on new corporate PPAs, ensuring financial viability and full risk evaluation and mitigation. Finalize all contracts, permitting, licenses and lease agreements.
• Drive effective profitability for the South African business and assist in managing assets in accordance with the Group’s target IRR.

Key Experience:

• 10-15+ years experience as an organisational leader of full end to end operations in the renewable energy industry, of which 5 years must be Solar related.
• 5-8 years experience in a senior Market Development Management role in Africa/South Africa across all aspects of identification and acquisition of IPP opportunities including end to end oversight of project bidding, financial modelling, project calculations and corporate PPA and financial close.
• Relevant degree/master’s in finance, economics or business administration.Key Leadership Attributes:

• Proven financial management acumen, ensuring effective financial management of P&L, profitability and oversight of successful project financing initiatives.
• Strategic partnership development to drive funding for ongoing new project development.
