Senior Project Developer REIPPPP

About the client: With a track record of successfully developing projects from initiation to financial closure of seven separate projects totalling 450MW of solar PV and 138MW of onshore wind in the first three rounds of the REIPP Procurement Programme in South Africa, and another three solar PV projects totalling 225MW (3 x 75MW) have been selected as preferred bidder from bid window four and the additional allocation to bid window four. Additionally, the company has a cumulative track record of developing and selling numerous wind and solar projects in South Africa up to full permitting in excess of 1GW.
We are now looking for a senior project developer to join the team.  You will need to have 3+ years related REIPPP experience – Land Acquisition + General Permitting.

• As the Senior Project Developer you will be required to perform any and/or all of the following tasks
• Identify and originate new renewable energy projects for participation in the REIPPPP and/or other government backed procurement programmes.
• Manage or facilitate commercial negotiations for the signing of agreements such as land lease agreements, servitudes, environmental impact assessments, regulatory approvals, electrical connection applications and agreements.
• Support the company’s participation in the upcoming rounds of the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Program and the associated financial close processes when successful (i.e. land rights and permitting, IFC/equator principles compliance…).
• Develop a portfolio of renewable energy projects for Private Off-take.
• Conduct land and environmental due diligences for the potential acquisition of renewable energy projects.
• Manage internal costs and external consultant costs in accordance with development budgets.
• Foster working relationships with external consultants, advisors, regulatory authorities, landowners and joint venture partners, convening meetings when necessary and bringing relevant matters to the attention of colleague’s and the Head of Project Development of the Company.
• Foster working relationships with the internal project teams (i.e. Finance, procurement, technical, business development, legal…).
• Keep abreast of Renewable Energy and wider power market developments, monitoring market activities in the RE sector and identifying potential opportunities for, and threats to, the company’s strategy.
• Additionally, you shall also carry out all other tasks and duties generally associated with the position to which you have been appointed. You shall also perform such other duties as may reasonably be required by the company from time to time. You accept that your duties are of such a nature that you will from time to time be required to travel in order to carry it out.
• You will be responsible for managing your area of responsibility in such a manner so as to ensure the effective, professional and pro-active provision of services to the clients.
• You shall at all times treat clients and/or service providers with care and respect and endeavour to avoid harm to the good name of the company or the relationship between the company and its clients.

Candidate Profile:

• The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience – B Tech, BSC science /engineering, BComAt least 5 years work experience as a renewable energy Project Developer in South Africa

Software program knowledge:

• Good master of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Teams, Global mapper is advantageousYou must be independent and be someone that could easily be send out on the field alone
• Strong health & safety competences
• Strong understanding of contract management
• Understanding of environmental law is advantageous
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Languages:

• Fluency in English is mandatory, conversational isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans would be advantageous
• Must have a driver’s license
